Ovation has a new offering in Journy, an app currently available on Roku, Apple, and Android. Journy shows are also available through Ovation if your cable provider offers that channel. They're currently showing Coming Soon for Amazon Fire and Chromecast. But if you've got the XUMO app on your Amazon Fire device, you can watch Journy shows. The drawback to using XUMO on Fire is that you can't just pick and choose the show you want to watch. It's like watching a regular network show where you have to wait until the day and time the show is streaming. But if you load the app on your Roku, Android or Apple device you can pick and choose the shows and episodes and binge to your heart's content.
Journy offers all shows travel and food related. Some of the shows they offer are: Chasing the Sun starring Stephen Jake Friedman, former pro surfer, travelling the world sharing stories of locals from all over Asia, Cuba, and South America. Great Wide Open, a documentary series directed by Jared Leto visiting America's national parks and chatting with those who visit them. Fabulocity with hosts Adamo Ruggiero and Jason Ruta showing you how fabulous places like Bangkok, Dublin, Toronto and the island of Curaçao really are. They also have Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, Refugee Chef, Angry Planet, and Luke Nguyen's France. It looks like a great lineup of shows that are right up my alley.
Journy came to my attention through an Instagram ad for a show called Travel Man: 48 hours in... It is a British show from Channel 4, hosted by Richard Ayoade from The IT Crowd, it's on its ninth season in the UK. In each episode Ayoade travels with a celebrity pal spending just 48 hours in each location. People like, Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Matt Lucas, among others have been on the show. He's gone to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana with Eddie Izzard, Vienna with Chris O'Dowd, and Dubrovnik with Stephen Merchant. If there's one topic I love, it's travel, and they snagged me in with travel hosted by Richard Ayoade. In the US this show can be seen on Ovation, if your cable/satellite provider carries the network. Otherwise you can watch free on the new Journy app or with XUMO. Travel Man is also available on Hulu.
